How Many Local Businesses on Google Maps Have a Working Website? Miami and València, 2026
Last updated: October 27, 2026 Reading time: 6 minutes
Most statistics about small businesses without websites come from surveys that ask owners what they have. We counted instead. We took 16,867 Google Maps business listings in Miami and València and checked the website on every one of them: whether a website is listed, where it leads, and whether it loads.
The finding
Listing a website and having one are not the same thing. Among independent businesses:
- Miami: 64.6% of listings show a website. Only 45.0% lead to a working website of the business's own. Of the websites listed, about 1 in 4 (25.2%) is a social profile, a booking or directory page, or a dead or parked site. Another 5.2% blocked our checks, so we can't say either way.
- València: 45.2% show a website. Only 33.6% lead to a working website of the business's own. Of the websites listed, about 1 in 4 (24.4%) is a social profile, a booking or directory page, or a dead or parked site, and another 1.5% blocked our checks.
The rest of the listings show no website at all: 35.4% in Miami and 54.8% in València.
- Working website of its own (45.0% / 33.6%)
- Website blocked our check (unverified) (3.3% / 0.7%)
- Dead or parked website (7.9% / 4.1%)
- Only a booking, delivery or directory page (5.4% / 2.3%)
- Only a social profile (3.0% / 4.7%)
- No website listed (35.4% / 54.8%)
Miami / València
Independent businesses only; trades with at least 100 listings in the city. Trades are Google Maps business types as the Lead Finder searched them (dental clinic and dentist are separate types).
What fills the gap
| Among independent listings | Miami | València |
|---|---|---|
| Listings checked | 5,820 | 9,788 |
| No website listed | 35.4% | 54.8% |
| Website is only a social profile (Facebook, Instagram, link-in-bio) | 3.0% | 4.7% |
| Website is only a booking, delivery or directory page | 5.4% | 2.3% |
| Website is dead or parked (no domain, error page, expired, "for sale") | 7.9% | 4.1% |
| Website blocked our check every time (unverified, not counted as dead) | 3.3% | 0.7% |
| Working website of the business's own | 45.0% | 33.6% |
By trade, neighbourhood walk-in trades (bars, cafés, bakeries, salons) are the least likely to have a working website of their own, and professional services the most. In València, only 9.7% of independent bars, 15.2% of cafés, 13.8% of bakeries and 13.9% of hair salons have one, against 47.9% of lawyers and 46.4% of real estate agencies. In Miami, it is 31.7% of hair salons and 27.8% of beauty salons, against 58.3% of real estate agencies. The trade chart above has every trade with at least 100 listings.
Booking pages stand in for websites in some trades. In Miami, 13.9% of independent hair salons, 11.4% of beauty salons and 29.2% of hotels list a booking or directory page as their website. In València, 21.8% of doctors list a page on a medical directory.
Among the dead websites, the most common failures were a domain that no longer exists (172 in Miami, 184 in València) and an error page such as 404 or 500 (173 and 116). 24 Miami sites and 24 in València showed a parked or "domain for sale" page.
Google's old free Business Profile websites (business.site), switched off in 2024, have almost entirely disappeared from listings: 1 in the whole sample.
Working websites that look abandoned
Of the working websites that show a copyright year, 19.2% in Miami and 26.4% in València show 2023 or earlier. That is a rough signal (some owners never update the footer), but a footer two or more years old usually means nobody has touched the site since. 6.8% of working sites in Miami and 6.5% in València still load without HTTPS.
Fix it for your business
A website of your own is the one place where your hours, menu or services, photos and contact details are all yours to present. Three checks take two minutes:
- Open your listing on Google Maps. Is there a Website button, and does it open a site that is yours?
- Does that page load on a phone, over https, with your current hours and phone number?
- Is the copyright year or the latest news from this year?
Croisa's Google Business Profile website generator builds your website from the details already on your Business Profile. It then keeps your hours and address in step with Google: change them in Croisa, by chat or in the dashboard, and your Google listing is updated too. Put the new site's address in the Website field of your profile. For the rest of the listing, see how to update your Google Business Profile and keep it accurate. If you had a business.site address, here is what happened to Google's Business Profile websites.
Method
- Sample. The listings come from Croisa's Lead Finder, the tool agencies on Croisa's agency plan use to find local businesses. It collected them from Google Maps data between November 27, 2025 and September 30, 2026 (Miami from January 18, 2026), scanning chosen areas and business types in each city. Miami means listings whose address is in the City of Miami (not Miami Beach or Coral Gables); València means the city of València. This is a sample of listings our Lead Finder collected, not a census of Google Maps. The trades skew toward what was scanned: restaurants, real estate agencies, salons and, in València, bars and lawyers.
- Deduplication. One row per Google place ID; there were no duplicates. Businesses whose website domain appears on 3 or more listings (chains and franchises such as fast-food brands, gyms and estate agency networks) are excluded from the headline figures: 705 listings in Miami and 554 in València. Shared addresses that are not chains but pages about the business on someone else's site (medical directories, property portals, online ordering and booking platforms, shopping-centre, venue and airport directories, and city or university pages; 174 listings) count as booking or directory pages, not as chains. Figures for all listings are in the download.
- Checks. Each listed website was first classified by its address (social profile, booking or directory page, Google business.site). Every other website got a DNS lookup and an HTTP request (HEAD, then GET), following redirects, with a 10-second timeout; a redirect to a social profile or directory counts as that. All checks ran from Europe (Spain) between 2026-10-27 19:15 and 2026-10-27 22:48 UTC.
- Retries. Any website that failed (no DNS, error page, timeout, parked page) or blocked us was checked again up to 3 more times, at least 1 hour apart. A website counts as working if any attempt worked, and as dead only if every attempt failed. 42 websites that failed the first time worked on a retry.
- How the shares are computed. "List a website" is every listing minus those with no website. "Working website of its own" is a site that loaded on at least one attempt. The share of listed websites that are not a working site of the business's own is (social profile + booking or directory page + dead or parked) ÷ (listings − no website); sites that blocked every check are reported separately and left out of that share.
- Blocked, not dead. A response of 401, 403, 429 or 451, or a firewall challenge page, means the server exists but refused an automated visitor or a visitor from Europe. Those are reported as unverified, never as dead.
- Working-site signals. HTTPS is taken from the final address. The copyright year is the latest year printed next to ©, "copyright" or "©" on the home page; sites without one are left out of that figure.
Limitations
- Not a census. The listings are what Croisa's Lead Finder fetched, not every business on Google Maps in either city, and the trade mix follows what was scanned. Treat city-to-city differences as indicative.
- Listings were collected over several months and the website field was not refreshed before the check, so some businesses may have changed their listing since.
- Checked from Europe. Some US sites block European visitors; those count as unverified, not dead, but a few may still have timed out and be counted as dead.
- The copyright year is a proxy, not proof that a site is out of date.
- Disclosure: Croisa sells a website builder. The aggregated data is downloadable so anyone can check the figures.
